Here we repeat a very successful and popular combination from the ancient history of FISC - Fasching in Luzern and skiing in Engelberg. We stay in the beautiful historic town of Luzern, enjoying its bizarre Karneval costumes and music, and bus daily to Engelberg, where we can ski Titlis - the powdery glacier that crowns this jewel of a resort.
Many FSCers are already well aware of the excellent varied terrain of Engelberg with 2 km vertical up to 3028m and accessible off-piste. The foolhardy can brave the steep bumpy descent down from the glacier - the sane should return on the extraordinary rotating gondola. The main area offers an abundant choice for all standards.
Karnaval in Luzerne is really something to experience – the costumes, the bizarre Guugger bands, the macabre humour … and you can escape the dreadful Fasching music in Frankfurt! If you can bear to sacrifice skiing on Monday you can join the Tagwach (6 am), see the Umzug (starts at 2pm) and enjoy some of the Fasnachtsmäärt (from 3 pm). We stay in the 3*** Hotel Waldstätterhof near the central station. It also has the added advantage of being one of our closest resorts – hence the late departure, but regrettably not much time for drinking on the bus. Don't forget your costumes - win the prize for the best.
