The Zillertal is a place we usually visit at the beginning of the season, especially for the Hintertux glacier, the largest one in the Alps. For once the club is heading there in spring, which will gives us the opportunity of discovering other more unknown ski areas of the valley. The whole partly interconnected area also called "Zillertal 3000" comprises the Penken and Horberg areas that may still be open, and Rastkogel and Eggalm that will surely be. At least, the glacier with its pistes up to 3250m provides guarantee for some top quality snow for this trip which marks the beginning of the end of the season.
Whether on the glacier or not, the opportunities for all skiers and boarders levels are numerous. With a total of 227 pistes and 800ha of terrain, freeride spots and runs of all difficulties can be found on all areas. Ride down the moguls on the plateau of Rastkogel, carve around the Wanglspitz, try out the Vans-Penken-Park if you're more a park-addict... Or dare the Harakiri, the steepest run in Austria, if you have the guts for it. Unless you would like to go for ski touring? Our 4* hotel Eberl conveniently located in Finkenberg provides either direct access to the Finkenberger Almbahn and the lifts of the Penken area, unless you decide to take an easy bus ride towards the glacier. As in every good Austrian resorts, socialising is part of the trip, and here again the choice is hard: the famous Tuxer "Hohenhaus Tenne" or the Finkenberger "Finkennest"?
